As a bodyworker and educator for the past 14
years, I have refined and refocused my massage style to reflect
the treatment-oriented massage that people are increasingly
seeking. Through studies in England, China, New York, Florida,
and Oregon, I have learned and further developed a wide range
of modalities and techniques that are effective on many levels.
My work encompasses musculoskeletal issues from headaches
to plantarfasciitis, and I work with every layer of the body
from the energetic layer to the bone. As I have seen in my
private practice and through my own experiences as an athlete,
massage can be incredibly effective in reducing or eliminating
pain, discomfort and dysfunction and bringing the body back
to a healthy balance.
Massage therapy school gives us a good introduction
to the basics, but the more I practice the more I realize
that further education is a must if you want to grow and develop
as a practitioner. By delving deeper into a modality, you
understand it at a more profound level and begin to embody
the work. All of my technique-focused workshops are clear,
focused and engaging, with a balanced combination of anatomy/physiology,
pathology, and supervised hands-on practice. They will give
you tools you can immediately use in your practice, and give
you a broad base from which to expand if you choose.
As a practicing massage therapist, I believe
very strongly that we must take care of ourselves both physically
and emotionally. I have mentored and advised hundreds of students
and licensed massage therapists as they navigate the challenges
and rewards of a career in bodywork. Through my ethics and
professionalism classes, I address many of these issues in
a relaxed and nonjudgmental environment, and provide licensed
massage therapists with ongoing professional support and connection
with the greater massage community.
